Welcome back to Writer Wednesday. Today, I have indie romance writer Eliza David, whose slogan is: “Naughty Mind. Big Mouth. Strong Liver.” How can you not want to read what she has to say? Read her Q&A below, and find out how to pre-order her next release, Savage, scheduled to go live on 9/30/2016. You don’t want to miss it!
Hi Eliza! Tell me a little about yourself to get us started.
Thanks for having me on the blog, Cassidy! Hi, I’m Eliza David and I’ve been writing for two years. My debut novel, The Cougarette, was released last year and has since become a six-book series. My last release, BrewGirl, is a love (lust?) story of a feminist who falls in love with a chauvinist. Besides writing, I work full time and raise two kids with my husband
Are you a pantser or plotter?
I’m a plotter but I treat my outlines as roadmaps, not as law. They also come in handy whenever my plot gets stuck.
Describe your typical writing day.
Since I work full-time, I have ‘writing spurts’, not full days (unless I take a day off!). My spurts occur mainly at five am. When I have an active WIP (work in progress), I usually wake up to a Post It or ten with a plotted chapter or blog post. When I prepare the night before, my writing spurts are much more fruitful.
Do you listen to music when writing?
Not while I’m writing, but I’m notorious for using playlists to get my creative juices flowing.
Tell me about your journey to publication.
The Cougarette was written during NaNoWriMo 2014. While I was writing, I researched the difference between self vs. traditional publishing. I went with self-pubbing because I want to publish as soon as possible. Seven books later, I’m still self-pubbed, but I have another WIP that I plan to formally query in 2017.
In The Cougarette, your main character, PR exec Cecelia ‘CeeCee’ Banks is forced to reinvent her life post-divorce. Who can you picture portraying CeeCee in a screen adaptation of The Cougarette?
Easiest answer ever: Nia Long. She is one of my favorite actresses and is exactly how I envisioned Cee: short, smart, sexy – all with a really great smile.
I saw on your website that you’re working on a spinoff titled Savage. What can you tell me about it?
Savage is a spinoff of the Cougarette Series. The main character is Laney Townes (CeeCee’s best friend). While she was the voice of reason in the Cougarette Series, Savage gives us a look at the vulnerable side of Laney. We get to see her issues with commitment to her girlfriend Jess get tested from an unlikely source – a man. My Cougarette readers will recognize some familiar faces, but readers new to me will enjoy Savage as its own project.
What’s the happiest moment you’ve lived as an author?
When The Cougarette cracked the top ten African American Romance on Amazon. It was only there for three days, but it made me giddy!
Are there any websites or resources that have been helpful to you as a writer that you would recommend?
Twitter chats are great resources & provide good networking opportunities (my fave writing chats are #writestuff #LitChat, and #RWChat)
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
SLEEP. I also like to hang out with my family, take long hot baths, and catch up on my reading.
Where can we find you online?
The Cougarette Series invites you into the world of fortysomething Cecelia ‘CeeCee’ Banks. A public relations executive, freshly divorced from her cheating husband of twenty years, finds herself falling in love with a man almost half her age. Throughout the six-book series, follow along as CeeCee gets to know passion, friendship, and – most importantly – herself with a cast of supportive (and not-so-supportive) characters trailing behind her.
When Zoe Taylor was a pudgy brown little girl in the mid-Eighties, she dreamed of being one of the tall, thin, and white BrewGirls – the spokesmodels for Windy City Brewery, the staple beermaker of Chicago for over a century.
Fast forward to 2016 – Zoe’s thirty-five, more curvy than pudgy, and working for Windy City Brewery as their lead marketing director. Her BrewGirl aspirations far behind her, Zoe is a self-proclaimed feminist who enjoys spending time with her best friend Ben, avoiding judgmental glares from her marriage-minded mother Marjorie and uptight twin brother Franny, and being a stellar employee to her demanding boss Diane.
Everything in her life changes the day she meets real-life Ken Doll Nick Webster, a twentysomething sales ingénue she’s forced to work with on a beverage launch. After greeting her with a compliment about her breasts, Zoe instantly hates him. Two months later, she falls in love.
But when she suspects that Nick is still carrying on with his rumored playboy ways, Zoe becomes unrecognizable to herself. From spying to crying, Zoe’s focus shifts from herself to monitoring her younger boyfriend’s every move. When she uncovers a heart-wrenching secret that threatens to tear both her relationship and her family apart, Zoe has to find her voice again.

Laney Townes of the Cougarette series is back with her own adventures in business and pleasure!
When CeeCee Banks announces her plans to leave her post at Chronicles to pursue her motivational speaking career full-time, Laney is counting on her best friend to hand over the reins of the non-profit to her – finally fulfilling her lifelong CEO dream. That is, until CeeCee’s new hire, Alex Esteban, shows up.
Alex, the fiftysomething president of his own corporate management consulting firm, locks horns with the resistant Laney as he attempts a reorganization of Chronicles. Between managing the seesaw of her friends with benefits relationship with law professor Jess and co-parenting her daughter Izzy with her ex-wife Roxy, the last thing Laney needs is Alex taking her chance at the top seat out from under her.
When Chronicles’ dismal annual report is released, the two Alphas set aside their differences to work together to keep the organization afloat. Laney and Alex slowly begin to find common ground and get along well. Too well…
In this sexy first installment of the Laney series, we find out if our favorite lady-loving BFF is ready to give up her legendary gold-star lesbian status for a chance at love with Alex – a man just as savage in the boardroom (and bedroom) as she is.
Eliza David is the author of the five-star rated, six-book Cougarette Series. She was born and raised on the noisy South Side of Chicago, but now lives in super quiet Iowa. When she’s not writing, working full-time, or raising two children with her loving husband, Eliza enjoys reading throwback Jackie Collins and indulging in the occasional order of cheese fries.
Eliza is also a contributing writer for Real Moms of Eastern Iowa and Thirty On Tap. She was a featured panelist at the 2016 Iowa Soul Festival and will be a headlining author at the upcoming 2016 Iowa City Book Fair. Her latest project, Savage, hits Amazon on September 30, 2016 and is available for pre-order now.
Huge thanks to Eliza for joining us today! Make sure you follow her on social media to keep up to date with the release of Savage!
